The shipping industry, as a crucial pillar of the global economy, holds significant importance in the decarbonization process towards achieving global climate targets. 80% of investments in shipping decarbonization are related to onshore energy infrastructure. How can we further optimize these investments and reduce the cost of producing green methanol in China is a common concern. On April 9, 2024, the Sino-Danish Shipping Decarbonization Summit Energy Roundtable Forum - Power to X, hosted by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in China, was successfully held at MAN Energy Solutions in Shanghai Academy Premise.

        Denmark boasts rich experience in renewable energy and shipping technology, while China is the largest shipping market in the world. The collaboration between the two countries will bring new opportunities for shipping decarbonization. This forum gathered experts and scholars from institutions such as the Global Methanol Institute, the World Bank, and the Danish Energy Agency and companies such as Maersk Group and COSCO Shipping to share cutting-edge knowledge and experiences. Five roundtable discussions were held concurrently, focusing on topics such as advanced resource assessment practices and green methanol production, fostering intellectual exchanges and collaborative discussions.

        During the summit, Liang Weiwei, an engine system application engineer from MAN, delivered a keynote speech titled "The Next Step in Ammonia - When?" systematically introducing MAN's timeline in ammonia-fueled engine research and development. In July 2023, MAN achieved the first operation of ammonia in the MAN B&W two-stroke 4T50ME-X engine, a milestone progress that laid a solid foundation for the company's future development in ammonia fueled engines. The company plans to complete the full-scale engine test evaluated for the first commercial design for ammonia engines in 2024, deliver the first ammonia fueled engine in the same year, and gain positive seagoing experience of pilot projects in 2026-2027, ultimately achieving full sales release.
