  • First Methanol Dual-fuel Low-speed Engine has been Successfully Operated in China
  •         On May 9th, China's first methanol dual-fuel low-speed machine 6G50ME-C 9.6-LGIM-EGRBP successfully realized the dual-fuel mode supply and EMU operation in Dalian Marine Diesel, and the key nodes achieved a major breakthrough!

As the first methanol dual-fuel engine in China, the 6G50ME-C9.6-LGIM+EGRBP engine can reduce the emissions of nitrogen oxides by 50%, 97% sulfur oxides, 90% of particulate matter and 11% of greenhouse gases compared with the traditional engine. It is currently the most environmentally friendly marine two-stroke engine in the world. In the context of accelerating carbon reduction in global shipping, methanol dual-fuel engines are increasingly favored by shipowners as green energy-saving products. The market share of methanol-fueled ships has increased from 4% in 2022 to the current 8%, and the trend of accelerated continues.

CSSC has always stuck to the concept of "green development, shared and win-win", and actively responded to the national strategy. The layout of low-carbon, zero-carbon fuel engine has been at the forefront in China. Since the first signing of the order for methanol dual-fuel engine in 2022, after nearly two years of technical research and capacity building, the company has fully equipped with the production and construction capacity of methanol dual-fuel engine. It is expected that by the end of 2024, eight methanol dual-fuel test stage will be built, and six methanol dual-fuel engines will be delivered in the second half of this year. On the basis of continuous accumulation of research and development and construction experience, the test cycle of methanol engine has been gradually shortened, becoming the earliest methanol dual-fuel low-speed engine with continuous delivery capacity in China. In addition, CSSC has also accelerated the production layout and technical pre-research of ammonia fuel engine stage. It is expected that four ammonia fuel test stations will be built in Qingdao in 2025, and the production and construction capacity of ammonia fuel low-speed engines will be fully equipped at that time.

This time, the 6G50ME-C 9.6-LGIM-EGRBP host successfully completed the dual-fuel mode supply and EMU operation, achieving another key node breakthrough and laying a solid foundation for the final inspection of the subsequent engines. The inspection ceremony of the first methanol dual-fuel low-speed engine in China will be held in Dalian on May 18, 2024. Let's witness another brand-new milestone of China's marine power equipment!
