On December 11, 2024, the 6L40/52G medium-speed large-power gas engine, developed and researched independently by China Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (Shaanxi Diesel Heavy Industry) with the largest cylinder diameter and highest single-cylinder power in China, passed the performance appraisal, which filling the domestic blank for medium-speed large-power natural gas engines and marking a major breakthrough in SXD's domestic development of medium-speed large-power gas engines.

　　It is learned that the SXD 6L40/52G gas engine, in the field of medium-speed large-diameter gas engines, first adopts the reliability control technology of the turbocharger exhaust gas bypass, realizing precise air-fuel ratio control over a wide operating range. It adopts the active pre-ignition spark plug ignition technology to achieve efficient lean combustion; and its single-cylinder power reaches 605kW, filling the domestic blank for medium-speed large-power natural gas engines.

　　The SXD 6L40/52G engine can meet TierⅢ emission requirements, with the design life of core components exceeding 32,000 hours. The project development process paid attention to intellectual property protection and accumulation of achievements, generating a total of 39 patents, including 14 invention patents and 1 software copyright. This engine is mainly aimed at the domestic and international 3MW and above large-power gas power market, widely adapting to LNG, natural gas, biogas, etc., providing high-reliability power for users.

　　In recent years, SXD has always adhered to the strategic requirements of national self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology, focusing on the research and development of core foundation components of power equipment, key technology breakthroughs, and independent design, innovation-driven, technology-leading, and iterative development, achieving new breakthroughs continuously. The successful identification of SXD 6L40/52G large-power gas engine marks that China has mastered key technologies for ignition, efficient combustion, and emission control of 400mm cylinder-diameter medium-speed internal combustion engines, achieving independent control of core technologies.

　　In the future, SXD plans to closely follow the requirements of the "Action Plan for Accelerating the Construction of New Quality Productivity and Strategic Emerging Industry Development" of their group, increasing investment in the series development of this product, accelerate the development of SXD 40/52 dual-fuel, methanol fuel, and ammonia fuel engines.
